Our mission is to be the premier provider of plastic products and services by satisfying our customers’ needs for quality and value, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Sandee History
Our company history reads like the story of the extrusion industry itself, and our custom and standard extrusions are hard at work for hundreds of companies in dozens of industries.
1941 – SANDEE MANUFACTURING FOUNDED
Founded by Elmer Szantay and named after his daughter Dee (“San-Dee”), Sandee becomes an early pioneer in plastics and helps develop the manufacturing process known as plastic extrusion.

Late 1940s – ENTERING THE TOY INDUSTRY
Sandee pursues opportunities in the emerging plastic toy market. At the time, most toys were made from wood or metal, making plastic toys a bold and innovative concept. Engineering drawings from these toy concepts remain displayed in our lobby today.

1950s – LIGHTING INDUSTRY EXPANSION
Sandee receives patents for several prismatic lens diffusers used in fluorescent lighting applications. Commercial lighting becomes a core market segment and remains an important part of the business today.

1950s – MOVE TO CHICAGOLAND
The company relocates to its current Chicagoland facility. Manufacturing capabilities continue to expand as the plastic industry grows.

Late 1970s – GROWTH THROUGH INNOVATION
Sandee develops its expertise in producing large, irregular plastic profiles. The company becomes a key supplier to the rapidly growing point-of-purchase (POP) display industry.

1978 – EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP
Sandee is purchased by a group of employees. The transition marks a new era of investment and growth.

Early 1980s – WEST COAST EXPANSION
Sandee expands operations beyond the Midwest, establishing a West Cost manufacturing presence by opening Sandee Plastic Extrusions in Paramount, California.

Mid 1980s – ADVANCED TOOLING TECHNOLOGY
Sandee becomes one of the first plastics manufacturers to adopt CNC (Computer-Aided Design) and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining, expanding in-house tooling capabilities.

Late 1990s – MOTION MAT LAUNCH
Sandee develops Motion Mat®, an innovative gravity-feed shelf liner. The product allows bottles, cans, cartons and other products to automatically slide forward on retail shelves. Motion Mat® becomes one of Sandee’s most successful proprietary products.

2000s – INVESTING IN PEOPLE
Sandee launches the most comprehensive employee education and training programs in company history, focusing on building a highly skilled workforce to support future growth and innovation.

when we say we’ll do something, we do it.
We were old school
before it became cool again.
Sandee’s profile design and extrusion processes offer leading-edge innovation and are as technologically advanced as you’ll find in the industry.
But our ethics were forged in an earlier, simpler time. A time when you looked people in the eye and gave them your word. A time when it just didn’t sit right to do a job halfway. A time when a promise meant something.
We think there’s still a place for those kind of values. So if you’re looking for someone to work on your challenges until they’re solved to your satisfaction, if you want a supplier who keeps looking for ways to save you money and time, contact us.
